Le 12 avril 2024, Nicolas Mortelmans sortira son premier album tant attendu, MĀYĀ, chez WERF Records ! Le fil conducteur de l’album est le sitar, un instrument qu’il a appris de manière traditionnelle auprès de différents maîtres du sitar en Inde.
Depuis 2017, il est formé par la célèbre Anoushka Shankar.
Dans chaque chanson, il tente d’aborder cet instrument unique d’une manière différente.
Avec cet album, il jette un pont entre son amour pour la musique indienne et ses racines dans les genres occidentaux tels que la musique électronique, le jazz et le rock.
En concert, il jouera l’album en quartet avec :

Le concert sera de la musique indienne avec quelques influences de rock, de jazz et d’ambient.
La musique sera méditative et explosive.
Je m’appelle Nicolas Mortelmans. Je suis un joueur de sitar belge et élève d’Anoushka Shankar (2017-2023).
Le 12 avril, mon premier album de sitar sortira chez WERF Records et je partirai en tournée en Belgique et en Europe de l’Ouest.
L’album est un mélange de musique traditionnelle indienne et d’influences occidentales.
Dans chaque chanson, j’essaie d’aborder l’instrument d’une manière différente. Avec cet album, j’essaie de jeter un pont entre mon amour pour la musique indienne et mes racines dans la musique occidentale.
Sur l’album jouent des musiciens invités du monde entier, par exemple Ravichandra Kulur de l’Inde (oa Anoushka/Ravi Shankar, John McLaughlin, Aka Moon,…),Benny Bettane (Australie/handpan) et des amis belges comme Roland van Campenhout, Tim Vanhamel et Stef Kamil Carlens.
On April 12, 2024, Nicolas Mortelmans will release his long-awaited debut album MĀYĀ on WERF Records! The common thread throughout the album is the sitar, an instrument that he learned in the traditional way from various sitar masters in India.
Since 2017 he has been trained by the world-famous Anoushka Shankar.
In every song he tries to approach this unique instrument in a different way.
With this album he builds a bridge between his love for Indian music and his roots in Western genres such as electronic, jazz and rock music.

The concert will be indian music with some influences from rock, jazz & ambient.

My name is Nicolas Mortelmans. I am a sitar player from Belgium & student of Anoushka Shankar (2017-2023).
On april 12th my sitar debut album will be released @ WERF Records and I will go on tour in Belgium and West Europe.
The record is a mix of Indian traditional music with influences from the west.
In every song I try to approach the instrument in a different way. With this album I try to build a bridge between my love for Indian music and my roots in Western music.
On the album are playing guest musicians from all over the world, for example Ravichandra Kulur from India ( oa Anoushka/Ravi Shankar, John McLaughlin, Aka Moon,..),
Benny Bettane (Australia/handpan) & Belgian friends like Roland van Campenhout, Tim Vanhamel and Stef Kamil Carlens.
